Contest #102 Answer: Hollywood Sign, Hollywood Hills, CA

What’s Your Dream?”…  In the Hills above Los Angeles, California is one of the most recognized symbols of the American film industry, the infamous Hollywood Sign.   Each letter stands about 45 ft tall (13.7 m), it was originally erected in 1923.  Max_Power really stumped us with this one, without obvious landmarks it was challenging to spell out the nine letters from above.   With a sharp eye and a little zoom, you can just pick out the staggered white block pattern, which might have helped some recognize it.

Those with an eagle eye:

  • Milosh, Serbia
  • Munden
  • Pan

Contest #101 Answer: Álftanes, Iceland

Just Southwest of Reykjavík, Iceland is a low lying peninsula known as Álftanes.  It is also home of Bessastaðir, the official Residence of the President of Iceland.  Just to the southwest of this small peninsula is the larger volcanic peninsula of Reykjanes, where one can find themselves soaking the the Blue Lagoon in the dead of winter.

After the Fun countdown to 100, We are back to the normal format with Max_Power submitting the contest 101-110.  Max_Power managed to get 9/10 in contest 81-90, but not many geographers got his first submission correct.

Contest #100 Answer: Lambeau Field, Greenbay, Wisconsin

Home of the Mighty Green Bay Packers, an American National Football League(NFL) Franchise Team, it opened in 1957 and was the first stadium built exclusively for an NFL team.  If you have followed Gary much at all, you’ll probably know that he is from Wisconsin, and a partial owner of the Team.  Gary will be coming back to the U.S. soon, and if we could take all of his twitter followers, they would fill this Stadium to capacity, and then some.

The Green Bay Packers have won 12 NFL Championships, more than any other team.

If you find yourself in Green Bay, you can always check out the stadium tour.

Also acceptable would have been the following answers:

  • The Frozen Tundra
