  1. Oradour-sur-Glane, haute Viene, Limoges, France
    Village détruit par l’occupation nazi.

My hint was the destroyed buildings and the european landscape. Nice one!

  4. This is the original site of Oradour-sur-Glane, France. The town was destroyed and all of it’s inhabitants killed on June 10, 1944 by the Nazis. The town has been rebuilt on a different site, but the original site is kept as it was left as a monument and memorial to this terrible event.

  5. This is Oradour-sur-Glane in France, the site of a WWII massacre by the SS of over 600 people. One of those places I’ve been (its very sad) which makes it easier to find.

  9. Hi I’ve just arrived from holidays on time:-)
This is a spot I also gave out as a place to find in our own quiz series. So – for me – it is easy.
It is the ghost village of Oradour-sur-Glane.
    Cheers

  12. Oradour-sur-Glane, village destroyed by the SS and never rebuilt. This was my first guess before the clue but I had no google earth or maps available and somehow convinced myself that I was wrong as I couldn’t relate it to ground level photos :p

  13. Oradour-sur-Glane, in west central France.
    Terribly sad history.

No way would I have found this without the hint.

(Looking for World Heritage sites got me nowhere – and didn’t particularly seem to fit the image either – but that left me with not much more to go on…)
