Contest #204 answer: Timberline Lodge, Mt. Hood, Oregon

Timberline Lodge acted as scenery for no less than seven movies, of which The Shining is of course the most famous.

It is situated at the south side of Mount Hood in Oregon, at an elevation of 1817 m (5960 ft).

Only some exterior shots were used in the movie The Shining, as most of the filming was done in the Elstree Studios in the U.K.

Contest #203 answer: Three Gorges Dam, Sandouping, China

In the Yangtze River in China lies one of the most controversial dams in the world, The Three Gorges Dam.
It is record breaking in various ways: it is the world largest power station (20,300 MW) but also cause a record number of people to move (more than 1,2 million) as it flooded a record number of inhabited places (13 cities, 140 towns and 1,350 villages).

It is operated by the China Three Gorges Corporation. a state owned enterprise.

When doing some research for this contest, I was shocked to learn how many hydroelectric dams in the world are built on (or uncomfortable near) seismic faults.
