Contest #217 answer: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, Wales, UK

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is the official name for this place, which is Welsh and means something like “St Mary’s church in the hollow of the white hazel near the fierce whirlpool and the church of St Tysilio by the red cave”.

It is the longest place name in Europe, but there is a short version, which is Llanfair PG or Llanfairpwll. The original name was Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll, which I can’t pronounce either.

Fun fact: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch was used as a password in the movie Barbarella.
