If you haven’t noticed, we’ve hit a snag in updating the website. I’ve been driving all over America the last two months and Skip hasn’t been able to update the site for personal reasons.
I’m looking for someone to volunteer to help run the site. If you have been following, you have an idea of what is required to add new contents. Put up and image and make a post for the answer to the previous contest. Just a few minutes per week.
If you’d like to help out, just send me an email (gary@everything-everywhere.com)

Where On Google Earth has been running for quite a while now. I’d like to try and get more people involved in playing and guessing. The next several contests will be something a bit different. Contests 91-100 are going to have a theme: my last two years of traveling. Each of the next 10 contests will be from someplace I have been in the last two years. That is the only hint you will be given. You can figure out what that limits things to by looking at the country list on my website.
I’ll be cross promoting these contests on my travel blog as well as on Twitter. If you have a blog or a twitter account, please do what you can to help promote the site. Despite the ads, this really doesn’t make anything. I don’t think the ads have even covered the costs of hosting at this point.
Also, this is a good time to take some stock of how things are going and get some feedback from all the users for what you’d like to see and how you’d like to see the contests run. Please feel free to leave some feedback on this post.
I’d also like to thank Skip for the great job he has been doing keeping contests running over the last few months. My internet has been really hit and miss and he’s done a great job keeping things running smoothly.

This might have been the most difficult contest this site has seen. The answer is the Tiksi Airport in Siberia. Why Skip choose this is beyond me, but nonetheless, that is what the answer is. It was originally designed as a bomber base in the cold war for Soviet bombers to reach North America.
On an unrelated note, I am clearly not able to get contests up in a timely fashion while I’m off running around the world. To keep the contests running more quickly, I’d like to get some to help administer the site. If you would be interested, please send an email to gary(at)everything-everywhere.com. Ideally, I’d like to see a new contest up every 3-4 days, which is much more than what it has been.

This was a pretty easy one. The answer is the worlds largest compass rose in Edwards Air Force Base, California. In addition to being a test flight center, Edwards is also an alternate landing site for the Space Shuttle. If you notice, north on the ground compass doesn’t align with north on Google Earth. That is due to the magnetic declination of the location.
Those who managed to land safely:
- Keith M
- Seb
- Lotsofcats
- Willem
- Pan
- Michael T
- Milosh Serbia
- Andy M
- ej
- Aaron Predeek
- Andy McConnell
- ACG
- RDaneel
- Karel

Sorry for the delay in getting up the answer for contest #64. I had problems with my laptop in Saigon and I’ve been trying to get everything back to normal. I’ve also been slogging through all the photos I took in Cambodia, which are now finally up on my travel photography site.
Without any further delay, the answer to this contest are the salt pools of Guérande, France. They are large ponds where sea water is allowed to evaporate leaving sea salt.

Skip has pick Astana, Kazakhstan, in particular the presidential plaza. You like?
Astana is the “new” capital of Kazakhstan since 1997. Like any made up capital (Brazila, Washington, Canberra) you need lots of funky buildings and monuments. Astana delivers in that department in spades.
Those who guess correctly for Gloriousness of Kazakhstan:
- Michael T
- Lotsofcats
- Andy McConnell
- RDaneel
- Kieth M
- Aaron Predeek
- ej
- Bryan, DC
- Ewen
- Pan
- ACG
- Milosh, Serbia
- Karel
- Brian T
I’ll have an updated leaderboard for contests 61-63 up soon.
